Kylene Updates 12.29.10

Because Kylene was unfamiliar with the keyboard and suffering some sleep deprivation with this letter I’ve written a reader’s digest version for everyone.

Kylene’s knee is doing much better, but she’s working on letting it continue to heal, which isn’t always easy for such a busy girl! She had a horrible cough and cold, but is on the recovering side of that as well. Her shoulder that she injured was doing great, but unfortunately her luck caught up with her and during a walk with Hermana Evans an Elder threw a basketball that bounced off the backboard, a corner in the fence and square into Kylene’s shoulder (yes the injured one). Kylene says, “Mi vida!” (My life!)

Kylene has had the opportunity to put her nursing skills to use, which has been quite happy about! She taught a class on stress with a latina for the hermanas. In Ky’s words, “The latinos have a very low key life style and then they come to the CCM and are in all class all day with lots of expectations, which equals, no bueno (not good). So they spaz out and have all sorts of symptoms. . .” Hermana Steimli, the CCM president’s wife really enjoys Kylene and frequently calls upon her to exercise her nursing skills. Here is one particular story:

“Two nights ago I found a sister that was laying in bed all day because she couldn’t move her neck. The next morn Sister Steimli had p-day so she left me a couple notes about this hermana. Anyways . . . I talked to the injured hermana , (with a translator of course, ha) and found out that she had fallen 4 months ago, was in a neck brace for 2.5 months, but then had fallen 4 days before coming into the CCM, and was in lots of pain. Great huh? Anyways, I called the AMA and I got to go with her to his office! It was lots of fun!”

Kylene’s first week at the MTC in Guatemala it was Christmas so they were taking it easy, but now that Christmas is over she is starting to get into more of a schedule and making up for lost time. She is still working on her Spanish, and frequently gets confused or blank stares from her native companion when she tries to speak Spanish to her.

Kylene’s favorite scripture this week is Revelations 21:5. She says it’s a great reminder that we are never alone in this journey. She feels like there is so much to learn and study that it can be overwhelming, but this scripture reminds her that anything is possible with the Lord.

Just so everyone is aware if you use DearElder to communicate with her it takes 10 days for her to receive the letter. If you send packages it takes about 6 weeks to receive, and hand written letters take about 3 weeks.
